“At the memorial service held to mark the anniversary of Sultan Abdul Hamid II Khan, who reigned for 33 years during the most difficult period of the Ottoman Empire, the main topic of discussion was the reestablishment of the status of the Osmanoğlu family”.

Sultan Abdul Hamid II Khan, who reigned for 33 years during the most difficult period of the Ottoman Empire was commemorated at the meeting to mark the anniversary of his death. At the 17th memorial service organized by Mehmet Tosun at the Malta Manor, were present former ministers Ismail Karaman, Hasan Celal Güzel, Halil Şıvgın, Nevzat Yalçıntaş, businessman Zeynel Abidin Erdem, Prof. Dr. Mim Kemal Öke, Prof. Dr. Ahmet Vefik Alp, Prof. Dr. Mehmet Işpirli, Prof. Dr. Abdulkadir Özcan, Prof. Dr. Tufan Buzpınar, Prof. Dr. Cihan Okuyucu, Ass. Dr. Emre Ökten, Özlem Ökten and our reporters Yavuz Bülent Bakiler, Ismail Kapan and Hayrettin Turan. Members of the Osmanoğlu family Adile Osmanoğlu, Harun Osmanoğlu, Ömer Reda Osmanoğlu and Salih Osmanoğlu were also present for the memorial meeting held for their grandfather. At the meeting presided by Prof. Dr. Mim Kemal Öke, the discussion focused on the lessons to be taken from historical facts which occurred after the Sultan was exiled. Hasan Celal Güzel delivered a speech, underlining the insidious plans concocted against Sultan Abdul Hamid Khan. Güzel, who emphasized that Abdul Hamid Khan's management of the rebellions and conspiracies against the Ottoman Empire during the last quarter of the 19th century should be carefully analyzed, also pointed out that the Sultan prevented the collapse of the empire for 33 years and that many investments and a lot of the infrastructure work had been accomplished during his reign.
