In the business world besides companies which grow overnight, there are those which grow gradually but with sound steps. The light for those companies which grow very rapidly is likely to soon die away.

DR ZEYNEL ABIDIN ERDEM – ARTICLE ON STAR NEWSPAPER 1 MAY 2005

Bush - Erdogan Correspondence

With two different statements made on April 24th and 27th, Mr. Bush, the US President completely wiped out negative expectations in relation to Turkey, thus frustrating powerful groups against Turkey, around 100 US Congress members and senators giving supporting them and the efforts by the Armenian Lobby backed by million dollar budgets because President Bush is well aware of the fact that this issue is a marginal one not built on facts, and even evidence, with even-exaggerated numbers, and that this is merely a fairy tale that talks about 1 million some Armenians were massacred in the South and East Anatolia of Turkey. When tomorrow official archives and documents are revealed, the contrary will be proven because it will be understood that the population in that area was not that high and the findings that the Armenians committed the massacre earlier. And thus the reprimand by Bush would go nowhere. A serious and dignified statesman does what Bush did, not what Kerry did. Mr. Kerry displayed an attitude that favors Armenians just for the sake of getting votes and hurt Turkey very much because Mr. Kerry was a protégée of Clinton. Mr. Clinton was always by Turks and thanks to troops he dispatched to Bosnians whom the Americans have barely heard of, he put a stop on massacre operations by the Serbians just on the brink of, what’s more, in the middle of Europe, thus ending the Moslem suffering there. That’s the reason why Kerry disappointed us with his opinions that neither of democrats has endorsed so far. The efforts by all parliaments, senators, White House Members and Security Consultants, the Pentagon officers and Mr. BARRY JACOBS, the Head of Jewish Lobbies supporting Turkish lobby in the USA, in particular, Senator ROBERT WEXLER were always appreciated by Turkey. I would like to thank to all of them both for myself and for Turkish public. Turkish people never forget their friends. Thursday Prime Minister Erdoğan crushed down false and misleading propaganda against the USA, to have allegedly reached around 83%, rumored to be boiling over for five to six months in Ankara. His silence had actually made us nervous. We have never had second-thoughts on the fact that these percentages alleged to reflect the extent of our friendly relations with the USA were obviously lies. However, Primer Minister’s ominous silence somehow made us a little bit uneasy about the facts. My personal comment coming from a man who has closely watched the relations between two states for 21 years and who is engaged with significant activities in social institutions is here: “Though it is a little bit late, heads of two nations put us at ease by making necessary statements on Wednesday and Thursday”. We also would like to thank Jewish institutions that support Turkish lobbies in the USA. A common will should be set in order to organize, guide and coordinate the Turkish people living in the US by our Embassy and to give necessary responses to such events. However, the Embassy failed to take this up to that point we have been wishing for a long time.

Invitation to 1000 US businessmen

It is necessary that Turkish Union of Chambers and Exchanges (TUCE) as well as other non-governmental organizations should pay a visit to the President of US Chamber of Trade with a 1000-person committee, and should contact the US businessmen to invest in Turkey. While associations formed later subsist their existence thanks to the Embassy’s material and moral support, they may distort the voice and reality of Turkey in the USA because those associations include, among others, TABA AmCham –Turkish American Businessmen Association- and similar ones which stand on their own feet without filching no one’s money from his pockets and without feeling gratuitous towards anyone, but supporting and maintaining friendly relations between two countries for twenty-one years. However, it is impossible, and what’s more, unrealistic for the other group that works unilaterally to act on behalf and in favor of Turkey because of its title and description. Therefore this task may better suit Mr. Rıfat Hisarcıklıoğlu, the Chairman of a significant body such as TUCE, and other Turkish institutions. We have to entertain 1000 USA businessmen in autumn. We have to invite the US investors to invest in a country offering commensurate potential with that of Bulgaria, Romania and the Czech Republic. The further we approach the US the closer we are to the European Union. The farther we fall away from the USA the longer the distance between us and the EU is. We can even lose control. During my interview with Mr. DENIZ BAYKAL, the GENERAL SECRETARY OF THE REPUBLICAN PEOPLE’S PARTY who has grasped the insight of the circumstances excellently judges the situation with the USA in a very clear and non-obscure manner, stating that the USA have always been our friend and ally. We hereby thank him because of his constructive approach. You can read my interview with Mr. Deniz Baykal on Turkish-American relations in today’s Star
